Air NZ Premium Economy

AIR NEW ZEALAND PREMIUM ECONOMY CABIN

Air New Zealand’s new Premium Economy cabin design has been a real labour of love over 3+ years. The challenge was to maintain Air New Zealand’s outstanding reputation for its Premium Economy cabin by developing the next generation seat and SkyPantry for 787-9 due to fly in late 2024.

The new fixed backshell seat design enhances value for Air New Zealand’s specific passenger demographic and its unique route network due to Air New Zealand’s geographical location. An unwavering focus on key experience drivers including cushion comfort, thoughtful location of LRUs (power, USB and headphone jacks), bluetooth audio, enhanced storage utility and lighting is fundamental to the seat’s simplicity and ergonomic comfort over ultra long-haul flights.

Inspired by a traditional feather cloak, the seat is designed to feel welcoming and prestigious; emulating Air New Zealand’s unique design language and sophisticated brand aesthetic through the sculpted form and CMF selections that nod to weaving and New Zealand’s native birds.

The SkyPantry was designed to give agency to passengers who want to access self-serve items during flight without disturbing crew or entering the galley zones. The Industrial Design features welcoming yet functional open shelving, warm ambient lighting and finishes akin to familiar residential and hospitality spaces.

The new seat and SkyPantry was designed in conjunction with all aspects of Air New Zealand’s updated Premium Economy cabin, including new serviceware, cabin-wide CMF and lighting, to create a cohesive, beautiful cabin and unparalleled Premium Economy passenger experience.
