KCD STUDIO

an inter-disciplinary perspective

KCD Studio is a New Zealand based inter-disciplinary design and art studio working across brand, graphic design, industrial design, space, object and art.

Fascinated and energised by all creative fields since I was a child, it is still the relationship and fuzziness between disciplines that continues to strongly inspire and drive my work. This interdisciplinary perspective and synthesis of inspiration from adjacent industries allows me to approach projects with a beginners’ mindset and stay creatively motivated.

Everything we touch is so intrinsically connected. Regardless of discipline, for me it’s about understanding an opportunity or problem to be solved, exploring my creative energy, employing a solid design process, and putting these elements to work in the appropriate context.

Every client is unique and has their own set of requirements, and that’s why I utilise the most appropriate medium(s) and approach for each project I undertake, to create bespoke, tailored outcomes specifically for you - whether it be a commissioned artwork, an innovative aircraft interior, or a new brand identity.

KCD Studio also creates a range of objects + art that is sold exclusively online. This is an ever-evolving, limited edition range of products. I only produce prints in limited runs, ensuring that you get to enjoy something that is unique and retains its value.

background

Kate Cameron-Donald launched KCD Studio in 2018 to share her passion for design, art and beautiful objects with a wider audience. An award-winning designer with over a decade of international experience as a professional artist and designer, Kate approaches projects with a holistic, pragmatic perspective - aligning customer values, aesthetics, functionality, user-experience, craftsmanship and core business values.

Kate graduated as a Massey Scholar and holds an Honours Degree in Design, majoring in Industrial Design, from Massy University, Wellington, NZ. In 2011 Kate achieved a Masters degree in Engineering Management (MEM) from the University of Canterbury; furthering her understanding of critical business principles and processes; knowledge which underpins her design ethos in a world where the most successful innovations are simultaneously desirable, feasible and commercially viable.

Kate is a creator, maker and lover of all things beautiful, with a passion for colour, pattern and texture - underpinned by clean lines and sophisticated simplicity. Growing up in rural Wairarapa, New Zealand, the natural environment is a constant source of inspiration for Kate, as well as the diverse cultures she experiences during her global travels and time spent living abroad.
